Your account
- If you sign in with Google: your Google account id and email address. With email and password: your email and a hash of the password, never the password itself.
- Your username, profile picture, library, folders, reading positions, reading sessions, streaks, friends, mailbox and wallet, so they follow you to every device.
- Without an account, the app is a guest on our server, known by a random id kept on your phone.
How you use the app
- When the app is opened and closed, and what opened it: the icon, a notification, a link or a widget.
- Which notifications were tapped, and at what hour on your clock. Tanuki uses this to send its reminders at the times you actually read.
- Your phone's model, operating system and version, the app's version, your language, time zone and screen size, whether you are on wifi or mobile data, whether notifications are allowed, and whether Low Power Mode is on.
- A device id kept on your phone. We store only a one-way hash of it. It lets us keep one guest and one welcome month per device and tell your phone from someone else's if you ever need to recover your account or ask about a purchase.
Where you are
- Our server provider (Cloudflare) tells us the country, region and city your connection comes from, and your network operator. We keep those, not your IP address.
- Your device's location only if you allow it when the app asks. Some prizes and features differ by country, and this is how the app knows which apply. You can turn it off any time in your phone's Settings, under Tanuki, Location.
Purchases
- Payments are handled by Polar. We receive what you bought and when, never your card number.
What we do with it
- Run the app and sync your things between devices.
- Pay out reading rewards and keep them fair (one per device, verified reading only).
- Choose when to send notifications, and learn what makes the app better, by looking for patterns across all readers.
- Account recovery, purchase questions and refunds.
- We do not sell your data. If Tanuki ever shows personalised ads, the phone will ask you first, and nothing is shared for ads unless you say yes.
Your choices
- Turn off notifications or location in your phone's Settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to delete your account and everything with it: esrom.mesfin1@gmail.com.
